Gabriel Medina wins Billabong Pro Tahiti

Tuesday, 26 August 2014, Teahupo'o, Tahiti: Claimed by the surfing community to be the best day a competition has ever seen, this day will no doubt go down in surfing history.

The moment the semi-final heats were decided, with Gabriel vs. Bede & Kelly vs John John on each side of the draw, all eyes were glued to the webcast. We knew we were in for an epic finish to the Billabong Pro Tahiti 2014.

(Although, we secretly wanted to see a John John - Gabriel final.)

"I really don't know what to say. Kelly is a legend of surfing, when I fell off, I thought I had lost that heat. But I thank God. This is the best feeling ever. I am so blessed to have these conditions at Chopes." - Gabriel Medina

With the win, Medina solidifies his #1 position on the rankings which means that there is a possibility 2014 could crown its first Brazilian world champion.

Congrats to both Gabriel and Kelly! And not forgetting Kolohe Andino who also put on a solid performance.
