Reigning WSL Champion John John Florence (HAW) claimed victory today at the second stop of the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT), the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro, after defeating Kolohe Andino (USA) in the Final.
“It feels amazing and I am so stoked. I just want to thank God and my family. That was a crazy week. We have been waiting for these waves and they finally came through. They were big and we got so many sets on the head. We got a lot of barrels and it was a sick event. I am just so happy.” – Gabriel Medina
“I’m really glad to be back on the podium and especially for a win. I’m stoked to be back in France, France has always been good to me. I promised myself I would win an event this year for my grandfather who passed away a couple of months ago.” - Gabriel Medina
"I'm really stoked with this win, for number one and two to go at it in the final is great for everyone. Adriano is a champion who never gives up. I'm stoked it all came off for this event, I'll go home, regroup and get ready for the European leg." - Mick Fanning
“The last couple of years I haven’t been getting the results I wanted, but more importantly I wasn’t having fun. Surfing is the most beautiful sport in the world and if you’re not having fun surfing then there’s something wrong. I had to really restart and regain my mindset. I did that by being close to my family and my loved ones and it’s because of them that I got back to having fun and being hungry like I used to be. This year I’ve been out there to win it and if it doesn’t happen it’s all good.” - Jeremy Flores
“It’s been my dream to win this contest here and since the year that I qualified I’ve been dreaming of this day, I’m feeling really confident right now. It was so crazy when I was trying to get my back-up board and there were just so many fans. Big congratulations to Bede (Durbidge) and to Bianca (Buitendag) and Courtney (Conlogue), you’ve all done such an amazing job and are such great surfers.” - Filipe Toledo
